With over 22 years of experience as an active duty Army officer and over a decade in higher education, Decker has the breadth and depth of experience to quickly understand both your engineering and leadership development needs.  Decker’s experience as a Deputy Commander for the US Army Corps of Engineers District, Professor of Military Science and Leadership, Chief of  Military Transition Team in Baghdad, Iraq, and as a Master Faculty Specialist in Civil Engineering and Leadership at Western Michigan University,  make him ideally suited to help solve a wide variety of organizational leadership and engineering challenges.

Decker’s academic awards include the Best Paper Award for Professional Interest Council at the 2007 American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) National Conference and the 2007 Excellence in Civil Engineering Education (ExCEEd) New Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).  He also served on the ASCE Body of Knowledge II Committee that published the second edition of Civil Engineering Body of Knowledge for the 21st Century:  Preparing the Civil Engineer for the Future.

Decker’s teaching and research interests include leadership, management science, engineering education, and water resources engineering.  He teaches water resources engineering, other undergraduate civil engineering courses such as Structural Analysis and Soil Mechanics, and the senior capstone design program for the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering at Western Michigan University.  He also teaches leadership in business organizations and a graduate MBA seminar on leadership for the Department of Management in the Haworth College of Business. Decker also conducts seminars on Transformational Leadership, Creativity and Innovation in Leadership, Effective Engineering and Business Process Management, and Total Quality Management for the Professional Development Programs of the Global Business Center of the WMU Haworth College of Business.
